Renaud Society

An International Society of Medical Professionals with an Interest in Better Health and a Passion for Wine

History of the Renaud Society

We are a society of medical professionals with an interest in better health and a passion for wine. The Renaud Society honors the legacy of Professor Serge Renaud, father of the French Paradox, supports wine & health research and education, and promotes the sharing of wine interests among medical colleagues worldwide.

In 2001, the Desert Heart Foundation launched its Wine & Heart Health Research Initiative. We approached industry for research support, but federal laws prohibited the beverage industry from funding wine & health research. The Desert Heart Foundation had a long history of successful 'Continuing Medical Education" for medical professionals, and it was Michael Mondavi that suggested we could raise needed funds through CME programs specific to our cause, in Napa. After a very successful Wine & Heart Health Summit in 2001, and again in 2003 and 2005, it became obvious that a core of passionate medical professionals, who continued to attend the program, had developed a fraternity among themselves, the faculty, and wine industry professionals. From this, and with Professor Renaud's guidance, the society was formed”

Renaud Society Founded

Renaud Society founded, honoring Serge Renaud, father of the French Paradox.

As medical professionals, we know that wine enhances health and specifically reduces the risk of heart disease. People who enjoy wine in moderation live longer and are less likely to suffer many illnesses. Wine enhances the flavors of food, and is often enjoyed with family and friends in the joyful experiences of our lives.
